About Jam DJ: The History
“A LONG, LONG, TIME AGO…”
-American Pie, Don McLean
Ever since I was a child, I was an entertainer. In high school and college, whether it was acting, singing, dancing, or doing stand up comedy, I was on stage. At the end of high school, I decided I wanted to be a radio personality, a Disc Jockey. I shadowed a few local radio DJ’s and I soon realized that the lack of pay, the requirement to relocate to different markets, and the competition to get to the top, and stay there, wasn’t for me.
In 1986, I began my own mobile DJ business and “Jammin’ Jim Kohler” was born. The early years were fun but difficult. Without any real capital, I made it on second hand equipment, cassette singles, and homemade lighting rigs. I honed my craft as a D.J. and got better with each event. As I invested in better vehicles, equipment and music, it was always about entertaining the crowd and playing the right music. I really hit my stride when I began doing more crowd participation. I was doing it before the Cha Cha Slide cool.
ALL of my business was by word of mouth and I booked all of my gigs from people who had seen and experienced Jammin’ Jim. I played because I was having fun and making people happy.
I’ve been a part of hundreds of weddings, bar mitzvahs, quinceaneros’, school dances, homecomings, proms, birthdays, anniversaries, pig roasts, company picnics, holiday parties, town picnics, holiday parties, military benefits, and everything in between. Whether its a small party in a living room for 15 people, or a wedding in a ballroom with 400, I can do it all.
Like most people, I took a break thanks to COVID, but I’m back and better than ever. I’ve invested in new technology and equipment to enhance every experience but even though the physical components have changed the core has remained:
I love what I do. I like to have fun. I want to entertain.
Any D.J. can have equipment and music. I have the ability to read a crowd on a dance floor, play the right songs and keep the energy. Let me put that to work for you.
I can’t wait to turn your next event into a lasting memory.
